Sheriff King’s Major Accomplishments
Fair Pay
Restructured pay scale based on seniority as opposed to preferential pay for some deputies and less for others.
Professionalism
Established a professional dress code
Merit
Established a comprehensive promotion process to identify the best candidates as opposed to promoting based on internal politics.
Retention
Improved retention of Jail staff through better pay and benefits under local management.
Successful Management
Local jail management has resulted in less violence, fewer lawsuits and less complaints.
Public Safety
Local jail management has resulted in Zero inmate escapes.
Revenue Increase
Approx $13.5 million in revenue expected 2025-2026 budget year from renting out the unused bed space to other Counties and the Federal Government.

Successfully lobbied Commissioners Court for pay raises and for the adoption of a STEP plan for deputies to further encourage retention of experienced personnel.
Equipping
Obtained much needed equipment for deputies such as trauma/first aid kits, fire extinguishers, patrol rifles, Narcan, jumper boxes, flash lights, traffic cones ect.
Remodel
Solicited funding from Commissioners Court to remodel the Sheriff’s Office building. I oversaw the remodel process to ensure a highly professional workplace.
911 Center
Solicited funding from the Commissioners Court to build the 911 Center. Designed the 911 Center and oversaw the construction.
Staff Affirmation
Encouraged every deputy to adopt a ministry according to their passions/interests and to pursue it in-between their calls for service. Things such as helping the homeless, helping people find mental health resources, helping addicts find drug/alcohol rehabilitation resources, identifying malnourished citizens and coordinating delivery of food resources are just a few examples.
Jail Operations
Restored local control over the jail from prior private management.
Education & Rehabilitation
Started providing numerous programs in the jail for education and rehabilitation.
Improved Medical
Local jail management has resulted in improved medical services for inmates.
Community Partnerships
This includes partnering with 26 different churches, ministries and non-profits to provide spiritual guidance/education, drug counseling, life skill training, job training and much more.
Holiday Celebrations
Sherriff King personally oversees Christmas and Easter ministries at the jail have been established to encourage spiritual growth of the inmates and to break down the adversarial relationship between the inmates and guards. These ministries help the inmates to see that we want them to succeed and that we see them as human beings who are capable of great accomplishments.
Vocational Training
Currently building a vocational education training facility to teach the inmates job skills so that they may leave the facility with real world skills and certification that will help them find a job.
