His Story

A life given to serving Johnson County

Adam King has built his career in law enforcement and was entrusted by the people of Johnson County to serve as their Sheriff — a responsibility he has carried with dedication to the community he calls home.

A Fort Worth native and graduate of Western Hills High School, Adam King has spent nearly four decades doing one thing: showing up for other people. It began in the United States Army, where he served in the Military Police Corps across Central and South America — including a posting in Panama in the period leading up to Operation Just Cause — and, in 1988, was named the Association of the U.S. Army’s Soldier of the Year. He brought that same sense of duty home to Texas — and he never really put it down.

For more than thirty-five years he has worn a badge in North Central Texas, first as a young officer in Cleburne and then through some of the most demanding assignments in the profession. He worked undercover against the drug trade, rose to command a special-crimes unit spanning four counties, and spent years pursuing the people who prey on the vulnerable. In 2017, the people of Johnson County entrusted him with the office he holds today: Sheriff. He also holds a degree in criminology and criminal justice from the University of Texas at Arlington.

Those who know Adam will tell you the title matters less than the man. He is a husband and a father first, and a man whose faith isn’t a Sunday habit but the engine of how he lives. He previously served as an elder in his church and helps lead a jail ministry of more than a hundred volunteers, carrying hope to people much of the world has given up on. He has fed the hungry, mentored the struggling, and quietly helped more families than he would ever mention.

That is the through-line of Adam King’s life — service in uniform, service to his community, and service to his faith. It is who he was long before he became Sheriff, and it is who he remains today.

Where Things Stand

The truth, and the presumption of innocence

Sheriff Adam King maintains his innocence, as he has from the beginning. His first trial ended without a conviction, and he continues to place his trust in God, in his family, and in the fairness of the American justice system. In this country, every person is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law — and Adam asks for nothing more than that: a fair hearing, and an open mind.

He and his family are deeply grateful for the outpouring of prayer and support from across Johnson County. To those who have known Adam over the years and seen his character up close, the family asks only this: remember the man you know, let the full story be heard, and allow the legal process to run its course with the fairness it is meant to guarantee.
