Feed My Sheep | Sheriff Adam King

The stories Adam King would never tell you about himself are the ones his oldest friend can’t help telling — and most of them involve a hot meal and someone who needed one.

A meal, quietly delivered

For years, when Adam has learned that someone nearby is in need — an elderly neighbor, someone homebound, someone sick — he has bought a meal and carried it to their door. Out of his own pocket, with no program behind it and no camera in front of it. The friend who shared this has watched him do it more times than he can count.

Room at the table

The generosity doesn’t stop at the doorstep. Adam and Tammy have opened their own home at Christmas to people who had nowhere else to go — strangers welcomed in and given a seat at the family table on the one day of the year it is hardest to be alone.

“Feed my sheep”

The friend who told these stories points to a passage in the Gospel of John, where Jesus tells Peter three times, “Feed my sheep.” That, he says, is the plainest description of how Adam lives — and he admits the example rubbed off, leading him to take up the same quiet habit himself. Adam doesn’t do it for recognition. He does it, in his friend’s words, to check on and help his fellow human without reservation.

“He does not seek recognition; he seeks to check on and help his fellow human without reservation.” — JL, lifelong friend of Adam King
